E-commerce rebuild that doubled conversion in 60 days.

Tropic Builds was losing potential trade customers to a slow, clunky WooCommerce store. We rebuilt it on Shopify with trade-specific features — and the results spoke immediately.

The Challenge

Tropic Builds had been running on WooCommerce for four years. The site was slow, the mobile experience was broken on checkout, and their trade customers — who account for around 70% of revenue — had no way to access their negotiated pricing without calling the office first.

The owner had tried two previous agencies. Both delivered a site that looked fine in the browser but missed the fundamental business problem: trade customers couldn't self-serve, which meant every sale required a phone call.

What We Built

We chose Shopify over WooCommerce for the reliability and ecosystem. The build included:

  • Trade account portal — verified trade customers log in and see their tier-based pricing automatically. No more phone calls for quotes on standard stock.
  • Bulk order flow — a spreadsheet-style quantity entry page for contractors ordering across 20+ SKUs at once. Reduced order entry time from ~8 minutes to under 2.
  • Mobile-first checkout rebuild — the previous checkout dropped off at step 2 for 68% of mobile users. We stripped it back to a single-page checkout with address autocomplete.
  • Inventory + pickup integration — real-time stock visibility for their two Gold Coast locations, with click-and-collect available at checkout.

The Result

The store launched in week four. Within 60 days, conversion rate had lifted from 0.9% to 1.9% site-wide — and from 0.4% to 1.7% on mobile specifically, which was where the largest volume of lost sales was happening.

Average order value also increased by 64%, largely because trade customers were now placing full orders online (with their pricing pre-loaded) rather than calling in partial orders.

"I've worked with three agencies over the years and this is the first time someone actually understood what our business needed, not just what our website looked like."
